Petri Dish Paradox

As per our today’s knowledge, we consider that Earth is the only planet in our universe that has intelligent life on it. But on the other side, the observable universe that is about 90 billion light-years big in diameter which includes at least one hundred billion galaxies, each with thousand of billion stars like the sun and many planets like our earth,

so there should be lots of possibilities for life to develop and exist on those planets.

But we do not found any proof of that extraterrestrial life yet!

So should we consider that we are the only living things in this entire universe?

If the answer is YES. Then the question arises, Who is the creator of this world? who developed this complex Universe? which contains beautiful planets like the earth, stars like the sun, and complex life forms like humans.

There should be some Alien civilizations, that are responsible for the creation of this beautiful universe.

But Where are they? Why we can’t see them yet?

In the late ’90s, these similar questions arose in the mind of an Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi. He proposed the world-famous paradox called ‘Fermi Paradox‘.

In this paradox, fermi accepted the existence of extraterrestrial life and proposed that Some of these alien civilizations may have developed intelligent life before even humans existed and they have become the advanced civilizations than us.

It is also possible that they may be capable of harnessing all of the energy from their sun and solar system, or they control their own galaxy with their advanced technologies. Possibilities are endless!

There are so many scientists in that Era, who believed in the existence of alien life. They also proposed their own hypothesis to give another perspective on the Fermi paradox.

(Ex.- Planetarium hypothesis, Great filter hypothesis, Zoo hypothesis, Rare earth hypothesis you can read them on Wikipedia for more clarity.)

Here we take another example from one of these hypotheses so I can explain my own ‘Petri Dish Paradox’ clearly.

Planetarium hypothesis: Proposed by Stephen Baxter, This hypothesis attempts to provide a solution to the Fermi paradox by holding that our surrounding world is an illusion, created by an alien civilization.

He postulates that we do not see evidence of extraterrestrial life because the universe has been engineered by aliens. so that it appears empty of other life.

(like a video game, we control our character, but the character in the game doesn’t know that he is in the simulation.)

PETRI DISH PARADOX:

After studying all these hypotheses, I have reached the assumption that,

If these alien civilizations exist in this universe they may have manipulated our Earth like a Petri Dish.

Before going further, we have to go through some microbiology basics to better understand this ‘Petri Dish Paradox’.

  • In the microbiology field, microbiologists culture various microorganisms on a petri dish for the production of the desired product.
  • They take nutrient agar in the petri dish, which provides an ideal growing surface for the organisms.
  • Then, they introduce a typical microorganism that is capable to produce the desired product and then they inoculate the plate with that organism.
  • The next step is to incubate those Petri dishes in the incubator for a specific time and at a specific temperature, so that the microorganism produces a desirable product (ex. Penicillin)

So my hypothesis suggests, The higher alien civilizations used the earth as a Petri dish for humans. The agar is our land, and they provided the nutrients as Water, Plant, Atmosphere, etc. for our desirable growth.

Our incubation period is going on and after some specific time, the alien civilization comes back to our earth and collect their desired product made by us.

Here the product they want from us is questionable. Maybe we shouldn’t find the answer to this question, Because our human mind didn’t have that much capacity to think at that level.

It is also possible that, In this universe, they also inoculated other planets with different species like humans and also set the incubation time for them. So there is a high chance in the future, that we meet with the other Species or maybe they will find us.

Even if there are so many possibilities there is no way we will ever know about them because,

We are the tiny humans on a Petri dish!
